Sailor Top

Last summer I sewed a cute little pantsuit for Gabrielle using fabric very similar to the the top shown at the right. She outgrew the top and the pants are now ruffled Capri's. I searched for replacement fabric to sew a new top, but couldn't match the original fabric exactly; however, this fabric is close. The original pants have a sunflower design in the background.
I found placing rick-rack on the collar was easy when I initially applied an iron-on seam binding first to secure it in place before top stitching with variegated thread.

This was a very fun top to make, so I'm sure it will show up again in another fabric. Gabrielle loved the little flower button. She is really interested in clothing these days and generally changes clothes about five to six time each day and another five or six times (at night time) when she is suppose to be sleeping. I find the remnants on her bedroom floor the next morning.
