CPSIA - Testing for products intended for Children

Stimulating the economy is what small business is all about. Many women, including myself have built products, brands, and companies around products intended for children. Knowing that women make up the largest share of consumers in the U.S. we have created products that represent the needs and/or desires of this demographic. Fortunate for me, my entire product line is not devoted to children under the age of 12, but many businesses are specifically intended to match the needs of this market with products.

This morning the Consumer Products Safety Commission has made revisions to the CPSIA "standard" which would have put many businesses out of business by 2-10-09 which has been dubbed "national bankruptcy day".

This is good news for all small business owners that the commission has planned to take one more year to address the issues of testing to make sure it adequately reflects what they are trying to regulate . . . which is safe products for children. It is not time to stop paying attention to this issue, but to be aware that our many emails and networks do have an impact on influening the decisions of those putting our laws in place.
