Inside Out - Outside Out, Non-reversible Jacket

Here's is an idea of what to do with old sweatshirts that are not fashionable. The sweatshirt shown below is one of my husband's tan sweatshirts that he no longer wore. The top of the sweatshirt had a logo, so when making this design, I decided that part of the sweatshirt would be turned wrong-side out. (The raw shoulder seams were used as part of the design, but could have easily been changed.) The sleeves were also turned inside out for a more "wooly" look also. I used satin ribbon on the top of the sweatshirt to creating a more flashy look.

The fabric sewn at the waist and the bottom of the sleeves was turned right-side out; however, the fabric sewn around the borders of the jacket was turned wrong-side out. Below the waist the sweatshirt material was turned right-side out. This creates a smoother look.

Then embellishments: buttons were sewn at the top of each satin strip. Crewel embroidery floss was used to create a design element around the neck and also down the satin strips.

From turning fabric wrong-side out, and right-side out, you can tell why I call this my "Inside Out, Outside Out jacket. Although I have sewn jackets that are reversible, this one was not intended for reversible wear since the "logo" was hidden on the inside.

Don't throw old sweatshirts away, send them to me!
