Three Jackets in Three Days

Although my sewing blog has been idle for several weeks now, I'm not without projects. My major project continues to be my business venture. In between product assembly, I am finding time to sew some simple jackets for Gabrielle. In the past three days, I've completed three jackets.

Pictured at the top (blue), the first jacket was made from left-over flannel. I purchased light blue polar fleece to add cuffs, binding, and a hood. The sleeves were turned inside out to reveal the more "woolly" finish on the sweatshirt that was used as the jacket's base that I quilted the flannel on to.

The second jacket I tried a new technique of gathering fabric and adding this in ribbon fashion on both the front of the jacket and down the sleeves. The hot pink strips are gathered.

The third jacket I also tried a new technique and created flat feld seams using my serger to create a patchwork quilt pattern using three different flannel fabrics.

All three jackets were created on top of crew-necked sweatshirts which were disassembled and then reassembled. On all three jackets, I used "stitch witchery" to secure the outer fabric to the sweatshirt rather than using pins or an aerosol glue. This seemed to work much easier than other techniques I've used in the past. I also used strips of blue painters tape to mark the location for quilting both diagonally and horizontally. The painters tape removes easily without leaving any sticky residue.
